Traditional driver's ed and practice with parents and guardians familiarize new drivers with the essential techniques and motions of driving. Advanced driver training helps drivers build on those skills through experience. Most drivers, no matter how many years they’ve had on the road, do not experience emergency conditions before an actual emergency. Advanced driver training provides that experience, helping to ensure safer driving through practice and education.
Advanced driver training is conducted not on public roads but on large unobstructed areas (like an airfield) where professional drivers guide students through a series of emergencies such as panic stops, sudden lane changes and object avoidance, until the student becomes competent at those skills.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 77% of fatal crashes are due to driver error. Nationwide, 43% of first-year drivers and 37% of second-year drivers are involved in crashes. Safe Roads Alliance has partnered with In Control Advanced Driver Training to help reduce these statistics. In Control's Advanced Driver Training has been shown to reduce first year accidents to just 4.6%, as determined in a four-year study.
In Control Advanced Driver Training has trained over 4,000 students in Massachusetts, more students than any other similar school in the country. In Control operates a fixed site facility at the former Naval Air Station in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, as well as a mobile program that trains at suitable locations throughout the Commonwealth (currently including North Andover, MA).
